The Chessmaster opening book gives the Alapin variation (1. e4 c5 2. c3) as very popular. Various lines can go 2. ... Nc6 3. e5 Nd5 4. d4 cxd4 with a dominant center, but weak white squres, or if you are fond of the QGD slav, 2. ... e6 3. d4 d5 4. exd5 exd5 5. Nf3. If you are more attacking, 2. ... d5 3. exd5 Qxd5 4. d4 is interesting, but all major variations are fairly equal
