Pete Sinfield and Friends performing "Maybe So" in 1982, for Spanish music program "Musical Express"

Maybe So Lyrics

Paranoid no doubt devoid my heart still cries
To fly just like a moth into the flame.
Endlessly eternally I lose my nights
Remembering to remember why I came.

Maybe so, (said) maybe so and so
Run out one more line and we won't know.

Oblivion where are you now this record's stuck;
Its lucky that I brought along a wedge.
Open wide now this won't hurt but can you trust
A man who lives his life out on a ledge.

Maybe so, (said) maybe so and so
Run out one more line we won't know

Sabotage and subterfuge you take me and
You know that I'm addicted to your spell.
Snipers used to sing the blues; some one man band
Now shakes it up by overcrowding hell.

Maybe so, (said) maybe so and so
Run out one more line and we won't know.

One in dire straits for two and three gets worse
Before you count your fingers should be five-
Sixes, sevens better watch that eight ball curse,
Nine makes ten I think were still alive. . .

Maybe so, ahh.. maybe so and so
Run out one more line we won't know.

Said maybe so said maybe not it's light outside
And we've been rapping snapping all night through
One last time I'll interrupt I must know why
You look strange, do I look strange to you?

Maybe so. Yeah, maybe so and so
Run out one more line and we won't know. . .
Maybe so!

  • Calypsos/Rhumbas generally work better simpler, Pete..Van Dyke Parks, Cooder..Col Bruce Hampton , Dizzy Gillespie.Edmundo Ross..Jazz-Rock and its Upper-School Snootiness was a bit of a diversion..Mike McDonald & Steely Dan pulled it off..It's only an observational song and dance tune..like Dvorak or The Wurzels..Costumes and lighting have varied..CW
