While car shopping in Illinois, my family and I stopped in Macomb on our way home and we made a quick visit to the Amtrak station. Although I just missed the eastbound "Carl Sandburg", a freight train came through after a short wait. This is a BNSF ballast train with two locomotives, BNSF Warbonnet Dash 9-44CW #750 on the front, with ES44AC #6179 on the rear. Other than passing through here once on Amtrak, this was the first time I ever railfanned in Macomb. I absolutely LOVE the station!
It's an RS3T (31, 37, 44 bells) with the 37 bell dead, so it's playing the bells of an RS2M.

That sounds like a BN horn but it turns out to be a former Warbonnet from ATSF.

There ain't horns like this anymore, at least not anywhere on the CN!

It really is a nice station. The bricks and the fancy light poles were added less than a year ago. There are plenty of good spots in Macomb for railfanning, but the Amtrak station is the best spot of them all hands down.

Yupp, there's the ballast train I just saw here the other day. Got some Kentucky ballast rock right there.
