April 2009 Customer Success Story Contest: Video Submission.

The customer of this video installed their camera system to monitor the front door and back door in the fall of 2008.

Other than the occasional stray dog or cat, the camera system did not capture anything of note until this past February 24, 2009 at about 11:40 PM. They were awoken by a phone call. It was their neighbor. A bottle had just come through their glass door. They wanted to know if our security cameras had seen anything. The customer checked the camera and observed a red car parked across the street from the neighbor's house. Then its headlights turned on and it made a U-turn in front of the house that had just been attacked. The car then turned off its lights again and pulled in front of my neighbors home (just out of view).

The customer called the police and they came to his home to look at the video. At this time, the officers had no suspect nor any information to go on. What all of them did not know until later was that while the officers were inside looking at the video, the suspects drove by twice (shown in this video). Both times, they turned off their headlights. In one video, you can see the car stopped at the stop sign in front of the customers home with their lights off, as if wondering why the police were there and not at the neighbors.

After determining that the red car had an unusual driver's side antenna, the customer printed pictures on their home printer and the officers left. In the closing moments of the video, you can see the officers leaving and the suspects (who believe there are no witnesses that link their car to the crime) passing by one more time. Officer realized that the car is a match and you can see both officers chase after the red car. What the camera doesnt show is that the suspects led officers on a chase and were both eventually caught after crashing. One suspect admitted to the vandalism and they were both charged with multiple crimes.

The customer's neighbors and the police were thankful for the security camera. If it was not for the security cameras, the officers never would have had probable cause to stop the car.
