This was my game against Andrew Solomon(1837) from the match that took place Tuesday between Evanston Chess Club (evanstonchess.org) and the Northwestern University Chess Club. Evanston lost 3.5-2.5, details on their site.

This was a game in which I got into an opening I didn't understand (1.d4 f5 2.Bg5 h6). My opponent played very well (although he missed a powerful shot which I show in the video) and I only had one move I could have played in the whole game to get an advantage, but I missed it in time trouble (not shown in the video). This was definitely one of the most interesting games I have played in a while, and good practice considering I haven't played a tournament in a month and a half.

  • you cant onpasnt because the pawn was infront of the black pawn but good game though

  • Could you reword this please? Not sure what you mean. I'm pretty sure I understand the rules of chess.

  • very good video !

though i would have liked to see the whole game, at least you can publish it?

  • evanstonchess ]dot[ org has this game.

Why can't I use a link in my own response? That's dumb.

  • Looking at the momemnt at/around the first critical position: are there tricks along the a2-g8 diagonal? I see Bb3, Qf7, Kg8 lined up, and White has temporary control of the e6 square.

This may be a pipe dream.....

  • I saw that too, but I couldn't to come up with any means of using this feature to turn the game to White's advantage. The problem is that Black's Nb4 and Qf7 support d5, so tactics involving c4-c5 are usually met by ...d5.

  • Yeah, those endings are good for people of my rating (1550-1600) basic ending principles. And the blocking thing is something I did but never knew I did, if you see what I mean.

But can I ask you to do another live blitz. The one where you sac queen and then win in the last seconds was the best live commentary I ever saw. You can think and talk at the same time - thats something! And just listening to your thought processes in the games is really instructive.

  • "Are we there yet, are we there yet, is it time for F4?!?" hehe great stuff Castle! Excellent commentary and vid!
