http://www.globalchange.com Cement production responsible for 7% global co2 emissions, 1 ton of concrete uses 1 ton of carbon, impact of real estate construction industry on global warming. Development of property, energy saving, life expectancy of buildings. Longevity extensions. Making buildings last longer before demolition. Lifetime energy consumption. Building regulations and government action to reduce global warming. Building offices, factories, high rise tower blocks, commercial real estate, schools, colleges, hosptals and homes, apartments and flats. Alternatives to concrete. E-crete polymer concrete. Expect widespread use in future of geoplymers such as E-crete, a product using power station waste, developed by Jannie Van Deventer, a chemical engineer at the University of Melbourne, and founder of Zeobond. If we replaced half the world's concrete production with e-crete it would save a billion tons of carbon dioxide in the next decade alone. E-crete is just one of thousands of examples of new innovation we can expect over the next five to ten years.... representing tens of thousands of new business opportunities, and billions of dollars of new revenues. Video by keynote conference speaker Dr Patrick Dixon, Futurist and author of 12 books on global trends including Futurewise and Building a Better Business.

  • Isn't Solar output a factor, I hear it has increase as part of a cycle recently. Why isn't this mentioned as a factor? I don't want to pay more taxes to rich assholes for this when there's no proof that we are the only reason.

  • @MrROTD Solar energy varies each year, and may have impact on global temperatures over longer term, but in meantime we do need to manage CO2 levels.

  • HEMP-CRETE :0)

  • @pickford7812 yeah water vapour scatters and reflects light coming in from the sun, what are they trying to teach us?

  • Patrick Dixon you are awesome

  • Realclimate

Water vapour is a major contributor to the greenhouse effect.

    And

The overlaps complicate things, but its clear that water vapour is the single most important absorber (between 36% and 66% of the greenhouse effect), and together with clouds makes up between 66% and 85%.

To top that off, the quote, "out of context" emails form climategate are real.

  • Water vapor isn't a green house gas... Maybe you should take a proper English course.

  • The Soviets used Portland cement free CO2 free concrete in the 1960s to build entire apartment buildings. The buildings concrete was recently studied and found to be sounder than the day it was cast.

I would think 50 years of data would be enough.

  • Fact human make less than 5 percent of all CO2, Water Vapor make up 95 percent of all green house gases, in 1200 it was warmer and had lower CO2, and best of all the sun is the biggest factor of all. Look at all the sides because I just derailed human CO2 affect into nothing to worry about worry about.
