President Richard Nixon talks with aide Chuck Colson about the reaction of the "hard hats" (construction union members) to his welfare stance. They also discuss a Vietnam War veterans protest ("God, it's an awful looking group"), an article about Edmund Muskie and Trotskyites, and the Supreme Court and busing. Toward the end of the conversation Nixon learns that Ted Kennedy and other important Democratic senators missed an important vote. He wants Colson to "have a little fun with them" about this.

'Clown president'? Lol, you mean like, Clinton for example?

Whatever else he may have been, Nixon was certainly no clown; he was an extremely capable administrator, and a very talented politician, overall. His personality may not have been very appealing to 'average joe' types, but so what? What counts is effectiveness, not popularity.

there are still plenty of people that think like this clown president and spew this hate speech...i was a boy of 9 and i watched his reelection in '72 and i wanted that creep nixon to lose...that creepy little man with the large head and beady eyes...but he ranks pretty high on the president list, that list of past cheneys.
