Clark vs. Nuclear Missile

This is a scene from the TV show Smallville. In this scene Clark 'leaps' or 'flies' so that he can catch up to the nuclear missile to stop it before it destroys Smallville in the season 5 episode 3, titled Hidden.
You decide yourself, does he fly or does he just 'leap a tall bound'.

Why is he struggling to climb the missile? If he could leap hundreds of feet through the air and easily dig his hands through NASA grade titanium, surely Clark was powerful enough at this point to hold on and climb without any real difficulty?
