Simply stunning. The opening cutting between the families sharing breakfast is reminiscent of imperial phase Robert Altman, with a distinct matching of pacing and style between locations. While comparisons with King Kong are inevitable it is in fact the verite-capture technique of Cartier-Bresson that the auteur strives to replicate here. Reminiscent of anything by Terrence Malik in Days of Heaven or The Thin Red Line this is a magnificent portrait of nature at its most raw and most dramatic.
