"Over the chants of thousands of angry protesters, Republican lawmakers made Michigan a right-to-work state Tuesday, dealing a devastating and once-unthinkable defeat to organized labor in a place that has been a bastion of the movement for generations.

The GOP-dominated House ignored Democrats' pleas to delay the final passage and instead approved two bills with the same ruthless efficiency that the Senate showed last week. One measure dealt with private-sector workers, the other with government employees. Republican Gov. Rick Snyder signed them both within hours, calling them "pro-worker and pro-Michigan."*

The "Right to Work" bill is not as helpful to workers as it sounds; it, and the people behind it, will kill unions in Michigan. People thought Governor Rick Snyder would help workers, but he and a group of wealthy supporters including David Koch, Paul Singer, and the Michigan Chamber of Commerce were against that cause all the way. Cenk Uygur explains how corporate interests took all of the financial advantages and are leaving little for workers.

The union bosses fund the democrats. So it does not matter how much damage or how many jobs the unions destroy as long as they keep funding the democrats. It is 100% pure corruption sadly.

Right to work is democracy. People vote with their own money on what represents them best. Unions can make a comeback though by becoming more like German unions. German unions actually care if a company is around in 10 years. Too many American unions focus on politics and laws that let them milk companies for everything they have.

right to work is evil and needs to end. It creates war between workers and destroys democracy

It is corruption all right something I once heard the 35th President opposed but that was union corruption and of all the corrupt bargains the unions strike with the politicians and that has got to stop.

Simple logic: if all workers were unionized, everyone's income and benefits would go up. What's wrong with that?

Where would that money come from? The prices of all goods and services would necessarily rise proportionally, not just to pay those higher wages and benefits, but also to pay the unions their dues. The net result is that unions would richer and workers poorer.

it sounds nice on paper but right to work means you can get fired for whispering the word union. Yes the other side takes complete advantage. And safety to THIS DAY in the 21'st century is still an issue. People are getting rushed into things and operating equipment unsafe. Injuries happen to the worker form this and they are then considered a "liability" by the employer when they caused this injury to begin with by rushing and pressuring the worker into doing something unsafe.
