Everyone expected that Easy Goer would win the Gotham Stakes easily yesterday, and that his time over a spectacularly fast Aqueduct racing surface would be extremely quick. Even so, what the chestnut-colored son of Alydar did was something special.

Easy Goer cruised to a 13-length victory in the Gotham while running a mile in 1:32 2/5, shattering Secretariat's 1973 stakes record of 1:33 2/5 and Forage's 1974 track record of 1:33 1/5. Easy Goer missed Dr. Fager's 1968 world record of 1:32 1/5 at Arlington Park near Chicago, the most hallowed standard of time in American racing, by only one-fifth of second.

On the basis of the extraordinarily fast times of the early races on the Aqueduct card, Easy Goer figured to run the mile in about 1:33 if he merely repeated his previous best performances. So his actual clocking of 1:32 2/5 represented roughly a three-length improvement on his already fine form.

  • "How do you measure greatness, 1:33.2 by Secretariat in 1973", and then the champion Easy Goer proceeds to go out and run the fastest 8 furlongs of all time by any three year old in 1:32.2, running effortlessly. No secret why Beyer stated Easy Goer, from a speed and performances standpoint, ran faster than Slew,Bid,Affirmed at the ages of two and three.

  • Easy Goer, Since the Genesis of the Breed, No 3YO Ever Ran a Faster Mile than Easy Goer did in 1:32 2/5,And He did It in His 2nd Start as a 3YO, and Only Secretariat has Ever Run a Faster Test of the Champion Belmont Stakes. Superb, Thanks Jim for This Great Post Race Footage!

  • "Easy Goer fulfilled those dreams and expectations embodied in his powerful chestnut frame, and authored an unforgettable Hall of Fame champion career, and will always be mentioned in the same esteemed breath with the GREATEST of ALL TIME." The Bloodhorse 1999

  • @danylson10 1000 % Agree with you ...perhaps he was better than Great SEC. ?

  • @danylson10 Actually more accurately, Easy Goer ran seven or eight 120+ or higher beyers in his career, which is double the amount of any horse since Spectacular Bid, including Ghostzapper,Cigar,Skip Away,Zenyatta,Holy Bull,Alysheba,Sunday Silence,John Henry,Formal Gold, etc

  • statistics indicated Easy Goer was second only to Secretariat, many 115+ beyers, wow!

  • Easy Goer ran so many of these top ten all time performances in his career, and Easy Goer ran them at every distance, 6.5F,7F,8F,9F,10F,12F. Easy Goer had that all time talent,ability,constitution,speed-stamina record combination.

  • @Scorcher7846 Agreed. Put Cordero,Bailey or Pincay and Easy Goer never gets beat a nose and desperation neck in 2 races due to Pat Day's typically atrocious riding and being out ridden with race riding and antics.

  • To Bad JD Bailey wasnt the jockey on Easy Goer, he would have been the best ever!!!!

  • its amazing that a horse this talented didnt win the triple crown.i understand sunday silence was a great horse himself but easy goer was a truly special horse.i guess theres only 1 person to blame for that and thats pat day because pretty much all you had to do with a horse like this was just stay out of his way and let him do his thing which day didnt.

  • Easy Goer was one of the rare, true all time greats that come along once in a lifetime, the fastest mile of all time by any three year old in 1:32, second fastest Belmont of all time with only Secretariat ever faster. Many of the most historic races on or near track records,(Champagne,Belmont,Travers,Gotham,Whitney,Suburban, 6.5f as a two yr old, fastest 7f of the year in Florida) won by many Hall of Fame horses in the past and afterwards.

  • The best horse to race since the racing history !
