@coloresperanza1000 No. You are probably thinking of La Guantanamera, the lyrics of which are based on a Jose Marti poem.

Isso é que é música. Isso que podemos chamar de música. Eu ainda não sei o ano dela, mas deve ser do final dos anos 60. Quem viveu naquela época é abençoado.

I really like this song, especially the spoken part in the middle. Beautiful poetry that makes a powerful and poignant statement. I wonder if this part was written by the original songwriter, or was it added by the Sandpipers?

@ShesBroadwayBound You are completely right about what you're saying of castro but I was under the impression this song was written in 1800 by Jose Marti. He wrote many songs about his lovely Cuba and how it missed it in his trips to spain (before Castro).

@Garpinator I thought it was written by Jose marti the famous cuban writer who also wrote the world wide famous " La Paloma".

Whoever recorded this on their phone needs to turn it sideways next time

Could someone please translate the Spanish lyrics into English?

Fans of The Sandpipers may also like "Free To Carry On", a much under-appreciated effort from this group. Check it out on YouTube.
