Located in Largo Argentina is the Torre Argentina Cat Sanctuary, a no-kill shelter for homeless cats (of which Rome has many), as the historical area abounds with various breeds of cats.
The volunteers at the shelter give daily tours of the ruins at 4:30 PM.
I was sent this from Petplace.com - a website run by American vets that I subscribed to a while back and I can safely say that this is one of the best videos I've ever been shown by them! All of those beautiful, healthy cats, safe from the threat of unnecessary destruction with that cute little kid who clearly loved them :) tugs my heartstrings!

Wasn't it wonderful??!! My favorite place to visit. I happened upon an article for the place about two weeks before our trip to Rome and I was so excited to visit in person! Some of my favorite photos are from there.
The kitties are free to come and go as they please ...
