@tricepsish MP's essentially serve the same role as infantry. Or more accurately the infantry are serving the same role as MP's. Mp's are supposed to be securing the rear, handling prisoners and general law enforcement. Since the entire country is the rear everyone is assuming that role.
Their casual gear is a symptom of their country being dirt poor. Literally dirt poor. Their houses, yeah you guessed it. Dirt.

just a comment and later a question: These SWAT members look like terrorists to me in their causal gear alhtough I know they aren't. Also that american belonged to a military police unit. How many mp units are there and do they serve front line as well?

this is live ordinance,nobody in there right mind would do that,especially the us troops,i have never seen these guys over there,just the iraqi police and most of them belong to the millitias helping the insurgents,alot of the iraqi swat vids they carry us equipment,308s,5.56 mm,they only carry their stuff because its easier to get ammo,something strange about these guys

they not from the SWAT team they r from the iraqi nation police with some help from the USarmy(3rd ID,MP,2nd ID/strykers brigade combat team)

How is there really a SWAT team because SWAT is Special Weapons and Tatics and all Iraqi police carry AK47's but still they are doing a great job over there. God Bless.
