Occupy Los Angeles eviction - round ONE

LAPD was threatening to evict the Occupy crowd via mayorial edict. Instead they just cased the crowd for a couple hours and then made some arrests of people who hung out in the middle of the streets [blocking traffic].

I expect the real show to be in a day or two. The idea, I suppose, is to get people used to riot police presence. And then when the crowd stops seeing the police as a huge threat - then the police goes in to clear everything out.

When you see paddy-wagons and trash trucks you know they mean business. Hopefully I'll catch the day when they actually do decide to evict. Since the protesters don't have any way to defend themselves I assume they'll be brushed aside by the riot cops.

If you'd asked me two years ago I'd have said anything like this would have been impossible. I think there's hope for this species yet.
