Self-launching sailplanes typically have very low power -- they don't need to take off short or climb rapidly, but they do need to have minimum drag and weight penalty for carrying the self-launch engine and propeller. Typical horsepower is under 20, for an aircraft that might weigh almost as much as an old J-3 Cub.
