Doing good feels good

Action for Happiness http://www.actionforhappiness.org is a movement for positive social change. We're bringing together people from all walks of life who want to play a part in creating a happier society for everyone.

For fifty years we've aimed relentlessly at higher incomes. But despite being much wealthier, we're no happier than we were five decades ago. At the same time we've seen an increase in wider social issues, including a worrying rise in anxiety and depression in young people. It's time for a positive change in what we mean by progress.

This film was produced by Fallon UK for the launch of Action for Happiness on 12 April 2011.

The reason for many people being unhappy is because of the way Britain is run. We have a government mainly made up of multi-millionaires grinding people into the ground. There are over 2 million people unemployed and it is going to get worse. If you want people to be more happy it would require a massive shift in the way we organise ourselves as a country. People are kept down by the class system and a lack of social mobility. If those problems were addressed we may become a happier nation.

Who's this "we've" your talking about who have never had it so good? And do you really think we can talk our way to a brighter future with therapy groups? I can do good things without talking about how to do it. I can't help thinking that someone down the line is making some money or influence out of this, or following a questionable ideology at the very least.

This is great and all but for goodness sake - Money DOES by happiness because it bought all of my Harry Potter books...... and my Lady Gaga albums. Those two things are just... concentrated ecstasy. I'm SERIOUS. = )

Wait a minute: "We've never had so much of everything!" Who's actually speaking here? Certainly NOT the millions of working people who suffered severe wage cuts in the last three decades. Certainly NOT the thousands of Americans who lost their homes during the financial crisis. "Action for happiness" covers up social contradictions as some sort of psychological disorder. What a SHAME!
