@caponsacchi Hello. When art blakey died, i wasnt born :P But i would like to have been there in that time and hear it live. I know almost nothing from mobley and dorham with him, but i like the group when lee morgan plays, and freedie hubbard aswel, but i concour with the slickness about the marsalis : P

Art's recordings from the seventies--almost all done in Europe and still unreissued on vinyl--are some of the best of his career because of the advanced compositions of Walter Davis Jr. and the extraordinary talents of two unsung heroes: Bill Hardman and Dave Schnitter. I've witnessed Art many times, unfortunately never in the '50s, when with Mobley and Dorham he had his best group of all. But in my life no group has played with the excitement of the '70s quintet. after that, Wynton slickness.

That late 70s early 80s period of the messengers was bad as fuck, with james williams and bobby watson (what a SEARIN mcleanesque solo on this one !), total soulfullness
-
@sweederlander They still play?

That last sax solo was clearly from the soul of that man. Wonderful
