Sperm whales consume up to a ton of squid and fish a day in the Gulf of Alaska and research suggests the whales have developed a new reputation for filching fish off fishermens lines. Its estimated that 10 percent of fish caught in longlines are lost to sperm whales. Using underwater cameras and microphones, a National Geographic grantee gathers evidence to help save both the catch and the whales.
