Laser-cut cryptex demostration. This puzzle was laser-cut from acrylic. It has 7 dials, each dial has 10 numbers or mathematical symbols on it. To extract the key one must align the dials so that a valid (true) math equation appears on each row. You then align the equation with the greatest value up with an arrow on the side, and the key can be removed. This design is completely customizable: new tiles can be cut to replace the numbers/symbols (say, with letters), and the number of dials can modified if the two bolts holding teh device together are appropriately resized. http://www.ericharshbarger.org/
I'm curious, Can you not see the tumblers through the clear acrylic?

This is a pretty cool cryptex. would you upload the measurements/ laser cutter file somewhere, because it would be awesome if I could make one. : D

This would be pretty nice to have in a math class- seperate the class into groups of 2 or 3 and give each group one of these to figure out...
