  • Yes, 747-200, N713CK, originally a China Air aircraft.

"Going direct Canarsie", the noise-sensors are VERY sensitive in that area, and if you don't turn toward Canarsie NDB immediately at 400 feet you run the risk of a noise violation. Hence my comment to Dave that I was indeed turning.

  • What is it like to take a 747 off? My response: Well, you have the seat puckerd up your rear end. That airplane uses every inch or centimeter of the runway most of the time, so you are always scared. But if all goes well, you reach rotation speed and pull back. The controls on Boeing jets are WAY heavier than flight sim controls from places like Saitek.

  • Nice video! Why would they use a 747 on a short flight?

  • The company needed a 747 for military freight out of Newark, and wanted us to ferry the plane over there. I would have just trucked the freight across town, but the government works in mysterious ways.

What the hell, it was a nice afternoon, I had nothing to do, and I was happy when scheduling called me, I kind of felt like doing some flying. Fly a 747 across town? How cool is that assignment!

  • That'S amazing. They have no flaps in, and are able to rotate before even coming off the displaced threashold...

  • great; the whale was fun to fly, but I much preferred the stretch B727...the 747 was very easy to land smoothly, the 727 was much harder to get a grease job out of....

  • hey learjetjock, he took off with max EPR, the takeoff weight must have been under 500,000 lbs I'm guessing...they'll jump off the runway....now at 830,000lbs thats another story.....the piggyback levers on the bottom of the pilots throttles are for the F/E to adjust power

  • Thanks for sharing what a job!! Had 4 lessons I'll stick to cessnas!!

  • great video!!! but can you explain to me what the levers on the back side of the throttles are? reversers? looks a little different from the other Boeings

  • short takeoff!!

  • @Flies2FLL Was that a 747-200? When the planes landed on 31L, it was a great view of them from Sheepshead Bay in Brooklyn.

  • If I am correct, these planes have 18,000hp X four engines; hence the amazingly quick take-off pace.
