7th Annual Southern Maryland Martin Luther King, Jr. Prayer Breakfast

The Martin Luther King, Jr. Prayer Breakfast, held on January 17, 2011 in the J. Frank Raley Great Room of St. Mary's College's Campus Center, drew a crowd of 500 people celebrating the life and works of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

St. Mary's alumnus Troy Abrams ('99) majored in Economics and served as this year's keynote speaker. Founder of the full service insurance and financial services agency AJW Financial Partners LLC, Mr. Abrams is a member of the Million Dollar Round Table, as well as Kingdom Harvest Christian Center in Owings Mills, which is shepherded by St. Mary's alumnus Pastor Charles Hall ('98).

Offering rousing performances were the Gospel Choir of St. Peter Claver Catholic Church and the Youth Choir of First Missionary Baptist Church, as Father Scott Woods of St. Peter Claver and St. Cecelia Parishes delivered an inspired invocation.

Theo Cramer (Director of College and Career Readiness, St. Mary's County Public Schools) directed the morning's activities, and addresses were delivered by The Honorable Steny Hoyer (D-MD05), Joe Urgo (President of St. Mary's College), Julian Tyer (First Vice President, NAACP St. Mary's Branch), Todd Eberle (Interim Director, Center for the Study of Democracy) and Josh Willett (President of St. Mary's College's Black Student Union).
