Recently, the U.S. Preventive Services Task Force issued a public recommendation against the routine use of prostate specific antigen (PSA) blood test for detection of prostate cancer. This is a decision that has caused significant confusion and consternation amongst the public and physicians alike. The urologists of Anne Arundel Urology and the American Urologic Association, disagree with the issued recommendations and continue to suggest routine PSA screening for early detection of prostate cancer.
