Location: Westin Boneventure Hotel, Los Angeles CA.
Date: January NAMM 2000
Featuring Frank Gambale Bunny Brunel & Robbin DiMaggio

Backstory:
Drummer Robbin Dimaggio and Bunny Brunel offered to assemble a band to play at the Hotel Lobby for Carvin. Carvin had concerts there each evening during the NAMM trade show. The hotel did not provide ample power for lighting. The lights blew the breakers so we had to continue the show without them. There is another version of this video on Youtube that someone downloaded from Carvin.com years ago. That version was camera mic audio only and was heavily compressed. It was also edited down from the original performance. This IS THE COMPLETE performance of Hendrix's classic with audio recorded and mixed via a Carvin SL56 console.

  • How can this dude be playing on a tiny Hotel stage with TWO freakin' halfstacks?! I bet the sound guy hates him!

    By the way, pretty sweet.

  • @dyakel101 The Westin Boniventure Hotel in LA is not a small place. It's massive hotel with a massive size lobby where we held the concerts. A number of movies have been shot there as well.

  • Frank's rendiition is brilliant here. I get the sense that his improvisation here should be recorded and released. Bravo, Frank! . . . and Carvin, for posting this.

  • amazing.that is all.

  • Wow! Frank absolutely knocks this out of the park! Great version - thanks for posting.

  • Frank could use a clothes line tagged to a plank and still come up with sheer brilliance! I really don't care what gear he uses, what he had for breakfast, what shirts or shoes he wears, or whether he's got hair or not. He plays guitar and nails it! Good enough.

  • 5:18 for the win. Frank and Bunny are true professionals..........

  • Frank Gambale, as a Carvin amps user, stated that he doesn't like tube amplifiers, in a Carvin official interview-advert, so I wonder if he used a solid state Carvin preamp and power amps in this performance.

  • The drums are a distraction...damn

  • maybe the most beautiful version of little wing....frank ,what a great touch, what a feeling....excellent

  • What a fantastic interpretation Frank plays here. It's also one of his most soulful performances. Truly a master of his instrument and capable of capturing the essence of any song.

  • He is using a Cheap but Nice guitar here, yamaha pacifica 112J. Perhaps i know what pickups installed there.

  • He is using a cheap yamaha pacifica 112J in this video, nice upgraded pups
