clciker training #6 - target training

(1 yr old cockatiel!)
they grow so fast !

TIP
your will need a clicker, stick or other object and a treat
(its better to start off with a stick)

STEP 1
show the object to your bird

STEP 2
when ever the bird gets closer to it or touches the object clcik the clicker and give a treat right away

STEP 3
if the bird doesnt want to come to the object tease him with the treat by putting it close to the object

STEP 4
when the bird comes closer click the clicker and give the treat

HELP my cockateil is scared of everything that isn't human. i tried to give him a half of a blueberry and he freaked he even hissed i a chunk of apple the size of a seed. he will eat some things if he sees me eating it but that's it. if i give him a new toy it is terrifying to him. i feel like he will be bores if all he is missing out on life because of his fear of everything. what should i do?

@zerordieb87 yeh that happens often ... my birds are scared of everything too .. the more time you spend with them and the more things you introduce them to the better they will get... when it comes to food try eating it infront of them and when feeding them cut it up in really small pieces and put it in their food container

how do i make my cockatiel interested in millet cuz if i offer her some she wont eat it she only eats it in her cage

dont give it to her .. only give it as a treat ever few days or weeks ... then she will get a craving for it

i never tryed training my cockatiel for anything,

mine is the kind that sits on your shoulder and just snuggles with you.

they all got different personalities some dont really care to be trained .. thats just like my Pearl she like to snuggle and get scratches

@willymacmac3 I thinks you just need to try it. Try give her millet or get the pieces off millet and put it in a separate food dish. She wil eat by herself and then try to give the millet stick. My cockatiel did that to.
