The "excited face" movement happens at about 50 secs. He has been doing this since about 6 months old and is now 3 years old. He does it when tired or excited. We were worried it was either seizures or a tic. He has developed normal in all ways aside from this repetitive movement. He had an EEG and saw a neurologist who said it is something he would outgrow, but they gave us no further info. After viewing some other videos, I discovered others doing the same thing who have "Complex Motor Stereotypy" and after researching I believe that is exactly what is going on with him. Just wanted to share in case other parents were looking for answers as well.

  • My boy will be turning 4 this month. You can tell he can control it more and does it less than he used to; but he has times when he does it more. It is nothing that interferes with everyday life though.

  • My daughter is 9 years old and still does this complex motor sterotypy. She's done it since about 3 months old. There are weeks that it is more active than others. It is always when she is excited or proud. The kids at school don't tease her. They just know it's something she does.

  • @Combrans So glad it hasn't become anything negative with other kids. I used to stress over it so much, but now my guys turning 4 and it is just something he does. Don't really even think about it now.

  • My son is now 6 yrs old and started doing the "excited" face at 4 months. It developed into what we cal "squeezing his face". His feet do motions as well. He has not outgrown it, but at six he has control over it. He is in kindergarten now and it has not been an issue. He has developed right along with other children and says he does not do it in school only at home when "he needs to think about something."

  • @aprav1 Sounds the same as ours. Thankful that it does not interfere with daily life in any way!

  • My daughter is four and she has even more involved stereotypies, and our medical staff has said the same thing. Since you did this in 2008, has your child "grown out of it"?

  • @jlythjohan

He is now 3 1/2 and has not grown out of it, but he does do it less.

  • How is yr little boy doing now? I guess he's about what 7 by now?I have a 4 yr old that does hand twicthes & makes a face to.I'm taken him to a neroglists in June.I'm worried to death. He already has add.He doesn't need anything else to bother him.I'm thinking my son has either tourettes or seizures.Other than the hand thing.he's ok.He's just very hyber, but can't be put on meds til we know about his twitches.

  • Thanks for the information. Unfortunately for us, I think our daughter is doing it more, rather than less. I'd GREATLY appreciate any information if you end up finding anything helpful in the future! Children sure are wonderful, aren't they! Thanks again!

  • Hi!! Have you gotten him checked out by a a neurologist??

Well my opinions, it looks like he is having an absence seizure up until he rubs his eyes at about 1:04. And then he kind of snaps out of the seizure spell. If it is not and he is just day dreaming it looks like a tic, and it def. looks like he can not control it!!

    Best Wishes!!!
