@vox1003 geddy used them to fill up space and make it better on the eye.. because he doesn't have amps on the stage (if i've read correctly, i may be entirely wrong and look incredibly stupid). for the Snakes and Arrows tour, he used chicken rotisseries.. but now, because Alex doesn't use normal looking amps (he uses these weird devices from Hughes&Kettner) Geddy and Alex have similar looking backdrops..
