Our society simply is not possible without government investing in infrastructure and welfare, funded by taxes. No Business wants to invest in an area without the stability provided by heavy government investment in infrastructure, welfare, and law and order. If you want to live in a place without any government "distorting the market" move to Somalia.

If people can't pay for what they need then it is our responsibility to give of ourselves to assure they can live humanely & w/ dignity if we wish to live in a civilized society- 99+% I know do. We don't need the greedy & heartless. Forcing people to pay requires the initiation of violence. Social pressure is a different matter.

The general welfare clause is in the preamble which the SCOTUS ruled assigns no powers. Article 1 sec 8 limits the powers of Congress. Which are you referring to?

What happens in Somalia is irrelevant to the philosophy of liberty. Still, Somalia's problems actually stem from too much government since WWII, things like UN intervention & military dictatorships leading to civil war. Their fiat currency was debased by over printing to fund wars and feed the politically connected. Sound familiar? They have been wiped out by hyperinflation. Let's hope the IMF doesn't do any more damage.

The reason people complain about taxes is not they are against all of the things the government does per se.Taxes are an act of aggression and force. The sector of society that tries to gain a monopoly on violence steals private property from individuals and then wastes it on a whole bunch of stupid shit like wars, drug policy, subsidies, corporate welfare, bank bailouts, ineffective departments ect. I wish I could opt out of the entire system like he stated but the slave drivers won't allow it

Wrong! I could drive on the roads because they are paid for by gas taxes and the socialist public schools are paid for by propert tax. Without an immoral and unethical robbing of those who work hard for their money, there would be more incentive for people to start their own busineses and make more money. Competiton would drive the costs of private schools down and improve the quality of education. That kid was right.
