  • Ok, we get it, it was grim. Still doesn't give Isreal a gold pass to act like assholes though.

  • @Martian74 Also, in my critical opinion, the trailer was edited well. The "dead spots," I am nearly certain, were intentional. Think about it, the entire movie is about a silenced generation.

  • @Martian74 Jewish POWs--as they in effect were--Also dug trenches, for the Nazi soldiers. Perhaps it was warmer in the bitter German winter than in Stalingrad, but comparing of the two experiences seems irrelevant. I do agree with you that both situations were deplorable.Perhaps because of the Iron Curtain, perhaps because the victors andallies write the history books, we know relatively little about Russian war atrocities in comparison to those committed by the Germans.

  • damn. that's all. Damn.

  • @JohnnyPtolemy Gulags lacked evidence systematic executions, such as gas chambers. Stalin could readily have used gas chambers if he wished; he executed almost a million persons in 1936-1938.

  • yom hashoah

  • @Martian74 It isn't a matter of "getting over it". This film, nor do any other Holocaust projects, represent simply animosity towards Germans - they don't hold Germans today as Nazis at any rate. But just because one should forgive, does NOT mean one should forget. Furthermore, the percentage of Jewry wiped out in the Holocaust is far greater than the percentage of Russians wiped out in the Gulags, which may contribute to the different reactions.

  • @JohnnyPtolemy My original comment was about the length of the film (9 hours), not its topic. Even this trailer could have been edited better as again it has a number of dead spots that could have been cut shorter. You can compare the Russian loss of life with the Jews because Soviet prisoners of war were in even worse camps than the Jews were as many of them didn't even have shelter and had to dig holes in the ground. They also were treated worse in Auschwitz but they (now Russia) got over it.

  • @Martian74 I don't think you can compare the Russian loss of life in WWII to this, as the Holocaust was a systematic extermination that dehumanized on a level never seen before. Furthermore, just because a filmmaker chooses to remember the Holocaust does not mean he is disregarding other great tragedies of our time, he simply has chosen a specific one. it defeats me how a heartfelt documentary trailer can be so misinterpreted as some grand statement diminishing some other tragedy.
