When I was on a cycling trip in Holland it was evident children were taught well by their parents how to ride correctly.
Also, the road markings left everyone(cyclists & cars know who has the right of way at intersections

when the dutch go for there drivers license one of the things you have to learn is how to respond to cyclists. also when we are young, either or parents or school teach us how to respond to cars (give direction when you cross). If you don't learn these things you can't get your drivers license in holland.

What a clever idea And lcf 34 is right we should be all pushing the idea of shared space on our streets. that motorists, cycles and walkers are responsible for their and all other road users safety.

Ha, unless you're going cross-country.

Now, aks yourself again why is riding with a helmet not necessary?

That seems to work pretty well. Much better to get the cars to do the stopping and starting as they've got power to spare. Interesting to see many of the cyclists indicating quite clearly when they are planning to cross the road: everyone seems quite aware of each other.
Yes. I live in France and a bit involved in urban cycling stuff and always try to explain to everyone (motorists, cyclists, pedestrians, etc.) that the infrastructure is not the problem: the problem is the lack of consideration people give to others using different way of transportation. (well, btw, everyone knows cycling is smarter :))
