David Mares was never apart of the Royal Jesters Enlish recordings like "That Girl" "Wishing it was yesterday" and he was never and I mean never a part of the Bell Label recordingn the Chevere album, songs released back in the 70's Opps! To bad! David Mares
Great man I been looking for this song for decades a friend from the neighborhood bought this 45 in early 70's hadn't heard it since but had it in my mind
I remember hearing this group live in awe circa 1969-70 at Incarnate Word High School gym. The three vocalist Henry Hernandez, Jack Martinez and Ralph Cortez were probably my favorite line-up! They were hip and played nothing but English tunes and were pumping out a lot of singles (45's) back then. The rythm section and horn players were tight. great musicians! Also, the guitar player Al Garcia wrote most of their material! Wish I could have bought their 2nd Lp "Chevere". cd-r copy, anyone?
opps! bad spelling dudes. That girl is one song that was played when The Jesters
were on a talk show with Cursing show host back in the 90's. It really doesn sound
like this in non stereo setting. I have a pretty good 3 way system and on this song
doesn't quite sound like the radio output one. When they played it live the entire floor shook especially when the bass played it's triplets. THen there are the muted trumpet cups. Most folks didn't know this was quite a unique setup.
I think in many ways David Mares and his vocals are greatly under estemated, I ve
been singing since I was 9 years old. SInce the days of Hank Williams and I was glad to have met this kind gentleman. Henry is a very likable guy and there Oscar Lawson. Very patient man. I thank him for his interview with hime when I was in Junior college. All those cats diserver many trubutes to come. That Girl is a selection quite different then the rest
Not soon after I bought it, I left the 45 in the backseat of my car and it warped from the central Texas heat. I think I still have it somewhere after 40 years! Thanks for posting it.
