This Canadian pig farmer uses a computer to custom blend feed for his animals.

John -- The feed here, I invested a significant amount of money about three years ago which actually does everything automatically. I actually feed about 11 different rations here.

The first two I actually buy and the other nine I make. All the ingredients and formulas are in the computer. If I want to make 4 tons of a particular ration, I just punch that in and it automatically makes the batches for me. It puts in the soy meal first, then the mineral, then the corn and then the lactic fat product for dust control and for energy. It mixes that and brings it to the locations in the computer and keeps mixing it until the four ton is done.

At the end of each ration that I make it's printed out for quality assurance. We actually know what is being made and that everything is being done right on the farm for our quality assurance and out veterinarians to take a look at.
