  • I wouldn't call this a crash. It looks like the arresting wire snapped and they ejected, most likely as ordered

  • @HornetSUCKSForever Dude your so right,I was thinking the same thing.

    Well Done:)

  • @gtc1961 I saw the same things in videos of current Air Force flight ops compared to the early '80s. Not a scientific sampling but not good to see. And to tell you the truth, some things safety related were quite lax in the early '80s. But now even more so. One video showed aircraft in-flight refueling and nobody is wearing their helmet, mask or blast shield. Back then it would have been a good way to get grounded.

  • YES. this is the USS NIMITZ. it was my first time woking on the flightdeck that night. DOLLAR DAVE V-4 DIV>GRAPE!

  • @babyherc1r I did the same thing. I ALWAYS put something very beefy like a hummer or a main mount between me and that wire. That was back in the 80's. In all the video I'm seing now, there seems to be a lot of relaxing of safety on the flight deck.

  • @HornetSUCKSForever I agree! hate those Hornets....bring back the Tomcats!

  • No!!!! Not the F-14!! It's too valuable for it too crash!! But if it was an F-18, I wouldn't care cuz they suck.

  • I believe this is on the USS Nimitz in 1985 or 86; the wire broke inside the AG engine belowdecks, at the end of the recovery rollout. The pilots ejected because they thought the plane was going over the side. It was Arresting Gear engine #2; I ran this engine (after the incident) for two years. This is the first time I've seen a video of this accident.

  • Good thinkin

  • i used to stand behine the front main mounts on our birds or the nose landing gear so that wire would hit that before me. and i also would watch the wire and the landings
