Halbert L. White, Jr. -- Chancellor's Associates Distinguished Professor of Economics in the Division of Social Sciences at the University of California, San Diego -- discusses his work in econometrics. White's major contributions to the field are "White standard errors" and a test based on these to improve the reliability of economic analyses. His innovations are also widely used by scientists in other disciplines throughout the world.
