What a dynamic duo they were! Thanks for making my youthful days so rich and come back in 2012!

If I'd been there... wow... simply amazing, the most talented artists of the 20th century, there just is no comparison
-
@Upnorthmn18 : You sure are hearing here some of the roots of today's popular American music, make no mistake. This song and the album it was on was a monster record and a classic. Imagine those guys making such a great record even when they couldn't stand each other anymore (broke up after that record).

@saddamisded totally agree with ya man... i am 21 and absolutely love this song.. the harmony and fingerstyle guitar is absolutely amazing.. they dont make em like this anymore unfortunately

@beccawecca916 As I have always heard that line, he says "I am leaving", then this hard man repeats in fury, "I am leaving!" Pretty powerful, angry stuff. But he still remains. Pathos, never excelled. But it is true, it's about general exploitation.

The song is a comment on parasitic exploitation of working people and in particular, boxers.

I prefer the vocal and instrumental sounding of the other version,yet I prefer this one lyrically; the "missing" verse.
-
This is my favourite song of all time, it has been for many years and will be until I die. It's just so powerful and raw. I love S&G <3
-
The missing verse in this version is sooo awesome! After changes we are more or less the same ..

@nukeade IT WAS!!!!
This song is amazing... i am 17 and i think it is probably one of the best songs ever, people i know describe this "oldie music". This is probably the most pure, insightful and inspiring song i have ever let my ears feast on.

This song to me means that we are all boxers, fighters by our trade, living this life we are all forced to exist and struggle. But we must perservere. We must remain. and we must not rely on "pocketfull of mumbles such are promises" we must tap into and rely on our inner being and the endless inner strength that we all possess
