Mining town 'severely contaminated'

Many private homes in the southern Quebec community of Thetford Mines are "severely contaminated" by asbestos and pose a dangerous public health risk, according to a new study released Wednesday.


Thetford Mines, a community of about 26,000 residents located just over 100 kilometres south of Quebec City, has long been the centre of Canada's asbestos mining industry.

It's easy to believe that the Harper Government continues to support the production, and sale, of such a dangerous substance. But it is hard to believe some of the ignorant comments. Haven't these people heard that asbestos has been banned all over the civilized world?

J'ai toujours habité a Asbestos depuis plus de 60 ans. Mes parents sont décédés a un age avancée 89 et 90 ans et ils y ont passés une bonne partie de leur vie. Mon père a travaillé a la mine et moi aussi. Arrêtez de vous acharner sur l'amiante. Les substituts qui sont chimiques sont bien plus dommageables mais on n'en parle pas.

Pure merde! J'habite à Asbestos depuis maintenant 25 ans et aucun problème de santé dû à cette supposé amiante et toute ma famille ont travaillés à la cie John Manville. Sont tous en bonne santé! Thedford Mines et Asbestos sont deux villes très propres! Regardez dont ce qui se passe au nucléaire ou au pétrole avant de parler du minerais qui tue! Foutaise! how do you then explain that 5 of my family members worked in the mines for about 35 years and NO ONE of them is sick? like nothing nada rien!? There's asbestos in way more things that you cna think off... you are actually expose to it everyday. but hey! the media will tell you what you want to hear if they can make money over it!
