On December 1, 2008, Tamango hosted his Urban Tap Open Jam at The Kitchen in New York featuring musicians Kaoru Watanabe on flute and fue, drummer Pheeroan Aklaff, bassist Francis Mbappe and pianist Theo Hill. The tap dancers joining Tamango on stage, described the evening as magical. Many had performed with him in different shows around the world. It was a special evening for the artists and the audience.
At Drom in New York's East Village on January 8, 2009, you can join in on Tamango's Urban Tap Jam featuring Kaoru Watanabe on flutes, Daniel Moreno on percussion, Fabio Morgera on trumpet, DJ Belinda Becker. Roxane Butterfly, Rod Ferrone and very special tap guest Tina Pratt round out the tap crew.
Tickets are $10 and can be purchased online http://dromnyc.com/home/index.php. For reservations call 212-77-1157. There is a two drink minimum or $20 order per performance (in addition to ticket price). Seating is on a first-come, first-served basis for all shows without a table reservation.
