5/24/2012 -- Large Explosive eruption at Sakurajima Volcano - South Japan

It has been a few days since we have seen new video posted from this specific volcano in Japan -- the webcams are on 24/7 (linked below).

The agency which monitors this area issued an alert mid-way last year (2011) for the possibility of a large scale eruption from Sakurajima , with a possible associated pyroclastic flow which could result from a large ash plume fallout.

This alert still remains active, and if you live in Japan around this area directly, be aware these eruptions will continue into the near term and long term future... its only a matter of time before a very large eruption occurs.




This current series of already somewhat large eruptions is VERY impressive to see . Static discharge lightning, the entire mountainside covered in lava, and the accompanying ash clouds that are expected with such events.

Why is there lightning? Could someone explain?

hot dry ash passing through warm moist air.. friction produces this lightning.. however there is another kind of "lightning" but more rare.. that is heavy earth elements in the lava can SOMETIMES produce plasma discharge when ejected... i've personally NEVER seen "yellow" at this volcano before.. only blue, purple and white lightning.. this "yellow" lightning is very impressive!

people need to stop looking for dates and start looking at cycles. the world is changing and at a frightening pace but to put a date on it is just pointless. just wait until it happens and then for a few months/years you will always remember the date
