@boxboy1111 I found one on amazon msg me to remind me to send the link to you. it's a beginners level but the author is so badass she acknowledges you as an adult and explains perfectly how to play. I got my cello last week and learned two scales in two days. Haven't been able to play lately bc of finals :(

His vibrato is not only awful, but a quick trip to carpal tunnel.
Beyond that, this is far too one dimensional; I can safely say that any decent cellist doesn't have one or two vibrato styles. We should have a pallet that is easily interchangeable and mixable (not unlike how a painter deals with paints). His technique only allows for a small scope of mediocre tone.

whats the best cello book to use if your teaching yourself?

Thank you!

@Benthegreats letting people believe that one is an actual cellist is much worse than stealing candy from a baby, even the proverbial candy :-)
CelloWiz's point is valid.
this guy is an idiot for leading people on, which, essentially, is what one must call what he is doing!

Some of my thoughts regarding Vibrato;
1. Maintain a C shaped hand, with no gripping of the thumb. Hand shapes differ so it isnt always possible to say exactly where the thumb should be.
2. Dont roll the finger/wrist. The finger should move on the fleshy part of the finger.
3. Let the movement be initiated by the back of the hand with a free connected arm movement.
4. Always slower than you think. (Especially in the early stages of learning).

5. If you hear a good vibrato you will not even notice it. It will be a fundamental part of the note itself. If it stands out, it is a bad vibrato.
6. Slower and wider for the lower register and quicker and narrower for the higher register.
7. Vibrato must serve the musical phrase. You can be musical without vibrato. But a continuously similar sounding one, is a dead vibrato. Most famous cellists are guilty of this!
8. It doesnt matter at all how you pronounce Vibrato!
