DemocracyNow.org — Thousands are expected to protest in Michigan today as Republican Gov. Rick Snyder prepares to sign a pair of anti-union bills that would make his the 24th so-called "right to work" state in the country. Pushed through before Democrats gain five House seats in the new legislature next month, opponents call the effort an organized attack against labor that will suppress wages and weaken collective bargaining rights. "He has decided to support the most divisive piece of legislation that has ever come forward in Michigan," says Democratic Michigan State Representative Brandon Dillon. "You'll see by the people gathered at the capitol today that he is tearing the state apart."

Brandon Dillon, like the Union bosses, are terrified they will not be able to force workers to pay for their greed and corruption.

This is a tuff call. I support the Unions and the concept of them. They are a powerful political force and a "POSITIVE" means of employee protection.

On the other hand a man or woman should have the right to work at any job they have the skills for. AND THEY ARE AN AMERICAN CITIZEN.

The right to work enables "ILLEGALS" to take American jobs. The employer and "OWNER" If caught need jail time. 90 days minimum in a local jail. No house arrest bullshit.

Pay attention to what? How absolutely wrong you are? I already provided the explanation. Non right to work states have Unions which use their power to require employees to be members, or pay union dues, as a CONDITION OF EMPLOYMENT. That is being forced into a Union if you are wanting to work.

Furthermore, I don't understand why anyone here is defending Unions. Only 5% of private employees are actually unionized. You are protecting only state workers here. ONLY.

In a true free-market economy, neither employers nor employees are at the others' mercy; rather, both are at the mercy of market conditions. If Employer A pays lower wages and benefits than it can, he makes himself vulnerable to Employer B, who pays higher wages and thus attracts higher-skilled workers.

A bureaucrat, paid by taxes taken from both employer and employee, and lacking first-hand experience, thinks himself a better judge of what constitutes fair conditions of employment.
