  • Print out everything for this week's tutorial.

  • You don't have to have all the answers now. Just start drawing.... The more you produce, the quicker we can arrive at the answers. You must show us your attempt for the tutorial.

  • Try and use 3d program or physical model to construct a framework of geometries that would contain water in a way that exaggerates the curious POWER of an abyss. How do you conceal a certain qualities in order to create curiosity? How do you reveal a certain qualities to create surprises? Take beautiful photographs of it, or 3d renderings if it's a computer model. Edit the imageries to show your feelings. It must be a 3-dimensional investigation.

  • Our studio believes in technology. It will aid design. What's more, these days students won't be able to find a job in Europe if they can't use 3d.... it becomes a necessary skill.

  • You must start producing your own drawings using digital mediums. In our studio we require you to learn to use 3d programs to produce renderings/models to aid with your work. Can you use 3ds? Rhino? Or other 3d? If you don't, start now.

  • In our studio, we encourage students to be exposed to artists/photographer/films/writers as forms of inspiration, especially at the early stage of the semester.

  • Contemporary artists such as Olafur Eliasson, who is famous for his installation works that often question the power of 'nature', he had transformed the inside of the Tate gallery in London into a giant outdoor foggy sunset environment.... Google him up.

  • ....Is it about how the human being PERCEIVE the water? How would you show the water? How can you create a framework that allow water to be experienced as an abyss? Abyss is a 'void', but water is mass, so how can water be seen as a void? Is it about the way the water is hit by light? Is it about differentiating the way light travels through air and through water, and hence exaggerating a certain atmospheric qualities?

  • Explain your reasons for such interpretation through 3d model/drawings/visual imageries/renderings. This will be challenging- How can you contain water in a way that it becomes an 'Abyss' (i.e. a swimming pool is not an abyss, so what makes abyss and abyss? An abyss should be more powerful than a swimming pool!)? Is it about playing with the geometrical form that contain the volumetric mass of water, or is it more about the EXPERIENCE of such geometries to a human being?....

  • Take a set of artistic photographs showing your analysis and interpretation of the 'awe' and 'curiosity' of the site. Which part(s) of the site contain such qualities?
