Cold drip coffee concentrate is largely a New Orleans thing, but works great everywhere. Check out the how and why of cold water brewing ... courtesy of French Market Coffee.
Why don't I make cold brewed coffee with what I already have? -- coffee filter and some plastic container. Is the Toddy coffee maker necessary to make cold brewed coffee?
dirkadoods, I've been reading you want to think layers if you're having problems with your grinds not soaking all the way through. Pour 1/3 of the water, 1/2 your grinds, 1/3 water, 1/2 grinds, and your last 1/3 water in that order and you should have a fully saturated coffee grind. However you can easily make Cold brew with 2 mason jars and a strainer.
I set up at 7p and drained to my decanter around 8a. The top grounds were damp but not all were wet. There were soaked grounds in the center and around the edges. My coffee & chicory came out as a full, dark concentrate.
I took pictures at each step but don't know how to post them here.
I'm going to set some tonight and see how damp vs. soaked the top grounds are ... and see if I can think through what's causing problems. Can't imagine the filter would be any kind of issue. Let's see if 3am offers illumination and I'll get back to you again tomorrow. Have a good evening!
Me too. My next thought is to let it sit a full 12 hours ("overnight" isn't always long enough if I don't think to set it well before sleep on a weeknight).
@suyon1004 i was thinking the same thing

Do y'all have an estimate of the ratio of cold-brewed elixir to hot water, to approximate the standard strength of a typical cone drip brewer?

I make ice coffee using the cold brewed coffee.
Milk, Coffee, Hazelnut syrup, sugar, and ice cubes.
Tastes better than McDonald's Ice Coffee.

You got it! Hope it's as lovely where you are as it is here in New Orleans this evening.
