Sophocles ancient tragedy is pushed to monumental extremes in this elemental drama pulsing with heated currents of Strauss most voluptuous music. This great work depicts Agamemnons daughters manic obsession with avenging his murder, unfolding as one huge crescendo from brooding resolve to bloody climax. The magnificent score, an enormous stream of orchestral sound, features unearthly effects and lush harmonies throughout, including the outstanding Recognition Scene. Relentless, absorbing and hugely effective, Elektra will have you in its grip from beginning to end.

  • Janice Baird is FAntastic - I just saw her in Vienna State opera this year as Elektra - it was beautiful and breathtaking. Absolutely one of the great Elektras of our time.

  • Some of those comments are not doing her justice. I have seen Janice Baird as Elektra under Kent Nagano earlier this year and she took my breath away. I was on the edge of my chair for the length of the entire performance. I think the above recording quality is pretty poor.

  • What happened to the good elektras? Why is this mediocre singer contorting her mouth at the audience? it's a mystery to me. I wouldn't cross the road to hear her. Sheesh!!! who the hell is inflicting these type of singers on the paying public. Something has gone wrong with opera.

  • Clearly she is singing in the United States. Where is the video we are watching from? Jeez.

  • This is what I don't get. Why are American's so averse to seeing fat people on stage. Most of you are overweight, don't you have lifes too? Don't you love, don't some of you have fathers who die? I can see someone's point for say Carmen or Turandot.. Its not implausible that a fat girl's Dad dies and she goes lunatic over it. Grow up.

  • she sounds flat and awful imo

  • OMG D: watching this girl sing electra... her mouth... looks like she's about to swallow some one's leg D: but i mean she sounds great.

never heard of electra as an opera, interesting.

  • Oh Please ... Jarrod in his pre-Subway days was nowhere near as fat as Jane Eatlen.

  • Jane Eaglen has arguably a more beautiful voice but her top thins out. I believe Eaglen's weight is a detriment to her support....

  • Yeah, and nowhere near as fat as Jane Eaglen.
