Visiting Birdsville was a highlight of our biggest and most exciting trip to date in August 2010. Based at Tooradin our trip took us to Swan Hill, Bourke, Charleville, Longreach, Windorah, Lake Yamma Yamma, Birdsville, Lake Eyre, Oodnadatta, Coober Pedy, William Creek, Marree, Flinders Ranges (Rawnsley Park and Arkaroola), Port Augusta, Waikerie, Wentworth and Mildura. Highlights of the trip were the Qantas Founders Museum at Longreach, the sand dunes at the start of the Simpson Desert at Birdsville, Lake Eyre, following part of the Birdsville track and seeing the punt ferrying vehicles where the track was flooded and the stunning Flinders Ranges. The volume of water, plant and birdlife was just awesome. Our fantastic aircraft is a Texan Top Class with a Rotax 912 which did not miss a beat in the 37 hours of flying at an average fuel burn of 17.6 litres/hour. If you are contemplating a trip like this, now is a great time. The earlier floods have made the Lake Eyre region an incredible sight.
Great video, guys ! Count me in next flyaway !
