@abenice Karate is an Okinawan martial art. That being the case, if one is not reasonably familiar with karate (Okinawan) then how do they know they are "doing it right?" Another way of asking the same question: American Indians had folk dances, one was the rain dance. If some other person, not an Indian, changed the dance of the Indians yet called it the "rain dance," is it still the rain dance? Can outsiders change the product of a culture and it remain that same product?
@IEKUKATAKA: Well, I ask you that because you wrote "American Version figures" as if you have a problem whith that. Yes, it alright with me obvious or I wouldn't have done it this long, but there is a whole sale of corruption you speak about I stay far away from most of the karate dojos in America are doing it the "right way" the problem the people that get all the attention give a bad rap to "Tradition Martial Arts" i.e MMA!
@abenice The further from the source the more the degeneration of things in general. I happen to know that there is whole sale corruption of karate in America, so, the issue is, is it alright for you.
@abenice American version? Figures. Here is the issue you don't get: traditional kata are bunkai based. As such, they have a standard line of movement, technique array and bunkai. However, bunkai are conceptual and there is always additional study regarding expanded bunkai and bunkai that may be similar. Don't you believe for one minute that Okinawan karate did not cover all the bases for unarmed combat that exist today. Man kind can fight only limited ways, then and now.
@IEKUKATAKA Remember when you know what hits the fan you fight how you train. So if you you drill applications or bunkai that are unrealistic you not gonna get postive results. You reap what you sow a bad seed and that is exactly what you will reap.
@IEKUKATAKA: Now lets get to the video, Thru, my experience from doing being a bouncer while in college and later as a policer officer and a full contact figher I have never seen anyone punch from a front stance position it very tradition and I respect that but its also very unpractical.
@IEKUKATAKA What do you mean by "true karate?" I assume you are talking about your version of karate. Well, let me say this I respect all martial art practioner and im very opininated when it comes to everything but especially when it comes to karate because its a way of life for me. I am also a Police officer so I am particular about making sure what I do is as practical and I believe Goju is very practical art or I wouldnt study it so long.
@IEKUKATAKA While look at the "pot call the kettle black" you want to talk about ignorance you dont even know me? Obviously, I hit a nerve thats why you are responding so rudely. Im just expressing my opinion and if you dont like it fine but dont make rash assumption about me. For your info, I have been training in the American Version of Goju Karate since I was 9 years old thats 22 years friend.
@abenice And you would know just exactly how? 31 years old, probably inner city and never exposed to true karate and yet you make an ignorant statement like that. Why don't you just thrill us with yout acumen and explain what an application is and then explain what you do with a particular application after you recognize it.
