Central California Womens Facility (CCWF) - State Prison

A trip past the local state womens prison on a beautiful Summer Solstice afternoon. Some of the inmates were out enjoying the day in the yard.

Another womens prison, Valley State Prison for Women (VSPW), is just across the road from this one. According to Amnesty International, VSPW and CCWF together are "possibly the largest womens prison complex in the world."

Remember, some of these women are convicted of MURDER! Larissa Schuster is here. She dismembered her husband, and tried to dissolve his remains in barrels of acid. What a killer!

Even in 2005- when my wife was in VSPW Her name was starr, we had a lot of good visits. we were the power couple, and she has tried to stay clean, I guess it is hard cuz drugs are a bad thing. I wrote a poem about the inmates in the prisons (Women) I nevrr got it published. I would take it to the prison and read it if the wrden would let me sometime. read ur bible, and may God bless! Hello to all My wife Starr was there for a probation violation, July 2-09- Oct 2010! She did drugs, and went through the SAP and is staying clean now, I brought in money to have a good meal twice a month I read some from the Bible, and Jesus is there for us all!  There were alot of rabbits there then

Two years ago an inmate told me that this prison was overrun with wild rabbits. And that they would chase you too!

I spent 3 years in chowchilla prison and i dont know where any of y'all got your info.. the boxes that were sent to me.. Not once could i recieve all of it.. they always found something wrong wth something.. and enjoying a day on the yard?? are you serious?? it was more like getting out of the unit then going on the yard and watching your back. the yard was considered messing. and the canteen?? please what canteen?? it was minimal as to what we can have. havent been back since 1993!

@ITHEREONETHATHASNT I agree with you somewhat. from what I've seen on TV their living conditions alone look a lot better. rooms (not cubicles) with wooden doors. looks like you can also have some time to yourself when you want it. guy's out there who have been up state know what I'm talking about. people that have never been just can't understand. in the free world when things get tense you can walk away and cool off. in a man's prison that's pretty hard to do.

Chowchilla and calipatria are min to max prisons. Is your cousin high security PC ( no offense just asking) And Yes i have ALOT of experience in our correctional system in canada and have worked with inmates in california. I am saying ON AVERAGE woman have access to more services including health care, dental care, yard time, etc etc. Go look at a womans high security prison anywhere in america they get more yard time this includes death rows and even in texas. Your experience if true is rare.

@ITHEREONETHATHASNT You know women that HAVE served in. I'm speaking firsthand here. And I'm telling you I was at Chowchilla sending my mom my list of shit I believed i needed and when it got to me they had to donate about 5 items because women weren't allowed to have them. I have a male cousin in Calipatria right now and he's getting more shit than I was when I was doing time. Why would I make this up?

This is a serious facility I dare you to compare it to what's available ti men at Lompoc or Victorville. I know many woman how have served time in the US through my work especially in california and believe me on average woman have great access compared to men of equal security level.
