It seems like disease of affluence. People are worth less than things and people are abandoned by other people. So maybe that is why thy make a fetish out of old junk to barricade themselves against feelings of worthlessness.

pull it all out into the back yard and put a tarp over it....Nothing thrown away...God forbid. and assigned her 8 hours a day to go through it...trash or donate...period.
