Patotte Bousquet Gypsy Jazz at Les Saintes-Maries-de-la-Mer

Here's a cool and rare clip of the famed Gitan guitarist Étienne "Patotte" Bousquet playing Django Reinhardt's musette waltz "La Montagne Ste-Geneviève" in front of the ancient church in the Camargue town of Les Saintes-Maries-de-la-Mer. Bousquet's accompanist is Gérard Cardi, a Corsican guitarist who played with him starting in 1959 at the infamous boîte du nuit Au Son des Guitares just off the Vieux Port in Marseilles. Cardi told me they performed every night for sixteen years at Au Son des Guitares---even given time off for good behavior on Christmas and their visits to the Romany pilgrimage at Les Saintes-Maries, that's still at least 5,000 nightly shows! La meilleure version de la valse à django (montagne sainte Geneviève), c'est celle de bousquet (patotte). il faut écouter son hommage à djangoavec une selmer.
