  • can you do these exercise work on acoustic guitar also?

  • Absolutely. They'll be even more effective because of the heavier strings.

  • How long should I do this a day?

  • I used to do the full 24 patterns once a day, sometimes twice. If your hand starts to hurt too much or cramp up, you should take a break.

  • No need to strum the strings? Only using your left hand?

  • If you want to work on your picking at the same time you can pick the strings as you move your fingers, but the exercise in this form is primarily for your fretting hand.

  • @MrLeedom

They are way too small to be bridge cables.

Bridge cables wouldn't fit into the holes in the tuning keys because they are typically around 12 inches in diameter.

Then you have the larger gauge bridge cables that could be as much as four feet in diameter.

In conclusion, the strings on that guitar are ordinary gauge guitar strings and bridge cable would be inappropriate and very impractical to use on a guitar of that size.

  • Great exercise, thanks heaps man! :D

  • As a novice, I was wondering if you would worry about "muting" strings with one or more fingers when in this 4 fret spread exercise? When picking along you obviously wouln''t hear it, but is it important to try not to mute any strings?

  • Have seen this excecise and variations of it demonstrated by quite a few people. I've been using it myself as well. Would highly recommend it to anyone, good and bad, to increase your skill.

  • thx for the tips =) ...

  • @MrWoloohojian i did it for hours and i got it pretty fast yesterday!

  • haha looks easy but i find it difficult to perform .. nice

  • @gr8bluesgtr it's true? i play acoustic guitar with medium strings since 2 years so if i start electric it will be really easy?

  • @gr8bluesgtr haha, i was just gonna say that! ive been practising some metalthings on acoustic before going back to electric, it feeels so much easier on electric after acoustic! even try some nylon if you can!

  • you have to remember to lift off. The one caveat to this exercise is that people do it mindlessly. You should listen to everything you ever play on the guitar. Pick-fretted note synchronization is really tested as you play these faster, and that seems to be the pitfall for many guitarists. It helps me, especially since playing with 13s makes it harder to get through the string fluidly with a pick. There's one exercise where you keep one finger on the fretboard, forgot how to do it.

  • Really Freakin' Helpful - thank you so much !
