This shows what can be done to make LED Christmas light sets better (IMO, anyway) Sets available today have the greens and blues too harsh and adding a simple resistor can tone them down and enhance the Reds, Ambers, and yellows to give a warmer look. This is done witha battery powered set, but AC sets can be modified too, but be careful not to do anything that could be a hazard!

  • Yes, some are so bright they hurt your eyes !!

  • I also meant to mention that the reason this tweak works is that the emitting material in blue, green, and white LEDs needs more voltage and a bit higher current to achieve their brightness. When you "starve" them, they still light, but softer. The Reds, ambers, and yellows take less current so they stay at the same brightness even with less voltage.

  • usb them...

  • I'm sorry but LED christmas lights are not nearly as nice as the incandescent christmas lights. the LEDs look a bit harsh and ugly. Old skool incandescent christmas lights look much warmer and nicer

  • The colorful LED lights are pretty nice.

  • thats why we dont buy blue LEDs we just buy red, green, multy colored, and white so they dont stand out against eachother

  • Thanks for posting this. I have always hated the LEDs look. The blue is just terrible. But the dimmer seems to give it a more traditional look. I have yet to see a "warm clear" LED that can compare to the look of the incandescent though.

  • yeap i have the same led lights but all in red
